Maxime
Biography
Maxime Plescia-Buchi (he/they) is a designer, tattoo artist, and entrepreneur. Born in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1978, he is currently based in New York, USA. He is the founder of Swiss Typefaces, Sang Bleu Tattoo, Sang Bleu Magazine, TTISM Magazine, and Novembre Magazine.
Maxime studied psychology and human sciences at the University of Lausanne before studying graphic design at ECAL, University of Art and Design Lausanne. He subsequently lived and worked in Zurich, Paris, and London, working as a graphic designer for studios and publications including NORM, North Design, Self Service Magazine, and Arena Homme +.
He began his tattoo apprenticeship under Filip Leu in Lausanne and later opened his first tattoo studio in London, followed by a second studio in Zurich. He subsequently relocated to Los Angeles, where he opened Sang Bleu LA. He now works privately in the New York area, dividing his time between his own private studio and Monolith Studio.
His work across graphic design, tattooing, and typography has also extended into watch design. His approach to watches draws on the same interest in typography, geometry, ornament, and historical visual references found throughout his broader practice. His designs explore the relationship between the dial, numerals, hands, case, and other elements of the watch as a cohesive graphic composition, while also considering the watch as a physical object.
Maxime has also taught regularly at ECAL, HEAD in Geneva, and the Basel School of Design. His work spans graphic design, typography, tattooing, publishing, and product design, with an ongoing interest in bringing these disciplines into conversation with one another.
