Having a lot of fun re-processing some of my archives. This back piece for Ryan is to this day one of my favourite pieces because it is perfectly balances conceptually and visually. It’s simple but not simplistic, the position is straightforward but not obvious, the execution is efficient but keeps a lot of subtleties and nuances, the theme is universal but not mainstream, the semiotics are niche but not obscure. Not to say that the Covid era was cool in any way, but nonetheless, a lot of interesting things happened, and one of those was to see how important something like tattooing could become when the social structures of the world we live in start dissolving.
