Booking

To be considred, booking enquires must be submitted with a completed questionnaire attached. You can find the questionnaire at the bottom of this page, in the Client Information section. Please do not reach out without completing this. Your first response will only be to complete the questionnaire.

Bookings are approved based on the project described at booking. We advise to keep things as open as possible and to be flexible to increase the chances of approval. Once the booking is done any change of mind must be notified and may not be approved.

The piece is discussed, designed, executed during time booked and remunerated, typically a 1 full day booking which includes the “consultation” part. Development of the design happens subsequently so that it is ready to tattoo in the following tattoo session. Modifications and changes to the design may result in additional time needed. In principle, the final design for the said day is only available on the day of the tattoo session. Previews of the design prior to each tattoo session only available at the artist’s discretion, to be discussed.

Note that the in-person part of the “design and fitting” session usually only lasts around an hour, and the design is not produced then. The session is focused on deciding on the concept, placement etc. Everything the artist needs to then create the designs. The rest of the time paid for is used separately for the actual design, in the time leading up to the first tattoo appointment.

FAQ

How long are tattoo sessions?

Full-day sessions are 5 hours and half-day sessions are 2.5 hours, typically from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM for a full day. Sessions include breaks, setup, consultation, and any design or drawing adjustments required during the booked time.

How much does a tattoo session cost?
  • Full day: $3,000
  • One-off half day: $1,600
  • Half day as part of a multi-session project: $1,500

A non-refundable deposit is required to book: $1,000 for a full day or $500 for a half day. The remaining balance is due at the end of the session.

Small or very small pieces may be priced differently. Price estimates are indicative only and do not guarantee the number of sessions ultimately required or the final cost.

How does the design process work?

Design and fitting are booked separately from tattooing. The in-person portion is generally used to discuss the concept, placement, and other details, while the actual design development takes place afterward in preparation for the tattoo session.

The final design is generally presented on the day of the tattoo appointment. Advance previews are at the artist’s discretion.

Can I change my idea after booking?

Bookings are approved based on the project described when you book. Changes of mind after booking may not be possible, so please keep your initial project description as open and accurate as possible.

What happens if I arrive late?

Please arrive 15 minutes early. If you are 15 minutes or more late without notice, the appointment may be considered cancelled and your deposit may be forfeited.

Can I bring someone with me?

In a private studio setting, generally only the client is permitted in the work area. Exceptions are at the artist’s discretion, so please ask in advance.

How do I pay?

Cash and Venmo are preferred. PayPal, Zelle, checks, and bank transfers may also be accepted, provided payment has arrived before the session where applicable. Any transfer or wire fees are the client’s responsibility.

Can I reschedule?

Yes, subject to the following conditions:

  • With 7+ days’ notice, your deposit can generally be transferred to a new confirmed date.
  • With less than 7 days’ notice, part or all of the deposit may be forfeited.
  • With less than 72 hours’ notice, the deposit is forfeited and a new deposit is required.
  • Only one date change is permitted. If the second date does not work, the deposit is automatically forfeited.
  • Deposits are generally non-refundable, except if the artist completely cancels without offering a new date.

Guest-spot/travel appointments generally cannot be rescheduled, as conditions vary by trip.

What should I do immediately after getting tattooed?

If you’ve recieved a standard wrap (not a second-skin adhestive type product) keep the tattoo covered and well sealed for at least two hours, then remove the covering before bed. Wash your hands first, then gently wash the tattoo with hot water and unscented soap. Remove any plasma, sweat, and excess ink without scrubbing aggressively. Pat dry with a clean, non-fluffy towel or paper towel.

Do not apply moisturizer, lotion, or cream during the first 1–2 days. After that, once the tattoo has been washed and dried, you can apply a small amount of gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer. Avoid scented products and harsh exfoliating acids.

For at least the first week, and preferably until fully healed:

  • No swimming or baths, showers only
  • Do not submerge the tattoo in water
  • Avoid heavy exercise and excessive sweating
  • Avoid contact/violent sports
  • Keep the tattoo away from dirt, dusty environments, dirty water, and dirty clothing
  • Wear loose, clean clothing, preferably natural fabrics such as cotton or linen
  • Do not pick or scratch the tattoo or any scabs

Avoid direct sun, UV exposure, and tanning beds until the tattoo is fully healed. Ideally, avoid UV exposure for 2–3 weeks.

What if I have a Second Skin bandage?

(Dermalise, Tegaderm, or Saniderm, etc)

Generally, it should remain in place for approximately 48 hours and can remain on during normal showering, but if the bandage is not disturbed it can remain in place up to 4 days. Do not pick at, poke, slap, or disrupt the bandage in any way.

Remove it slowly in the shower, pulling it back along the skin rather than straight upward.

If the bandage tears, opens, leaks significantly, or begins peeling away, remove it rather than attempting to reseal it. Wash the tattoo with warm water and unscented soap and contact us if needed.

How often should I wash my tattoo?

Once the initial bandage has been removed, wash the tattoo gently with unscented soap twice a day, morning and evening. Pat it dry with a clean towel or paper towel.

How long does a tattoo take to heal?

Most tattoos take approximately 1½–2 weeks to heal on the surface. During healing, some dryness, tightness, and itching are normal.

The tattoo can continue settling and changing in appearance, with its final permanent appearance generally reached after 4–6 months.

Is itching or scabbing normal?

Some itching and dryness are normal. Do not scratch or pick the tattoo, including any scabs. Picking can cause infection and may result in uneven or patchy healing.

Contact a medical professional if you experience signs such as:

  • Increasing redness or swelling
  • Significant heat at the tattoo site
  • Throbbing or spreading pain
  • Yellow, green, or grey discharge/pus
  • Fever or other persistent systemic symptoms

If you suspect an infection, consult your doctor first.

Can I use numbing cream?

Numbing cream may be used, but it must be applied at the studio. The time required for application and for the cream to take effect (typically 1–2 hours) is included in the booked and paid session time.

We cannot advise on chemical painkillers and do not accept responsibility for their use or for medical side effects. If you are unsure whether you are medically fit to use a product, consult a medical professional.

Can I get a touch-up?

Yes. Please allow the tattoo to fully heal first, then contact us so we can assess whether a touch-up is necessary.

Who owns the tattoo design?

The tattoo itself, as part of your body and likeness, is yours to display and use without restriction, including commercially.

The underlying tattoo design remains the artist’s intellectual property and may be reused at the artist’s discretion. If you require exclusive rights to a design, a separate buyout may be discussed for an additional fee.

If you provide artwork or images as references, you are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights to use them.

Will photographs of me be taken?

Photography and video may take place in the studio for social media, promotional, or editorial purposes. By agreeing to the studio’s terms, you grant Sang Bleu and/or Maxime Plescia-Buchi rights to use images taken at the studio.

If you have specific privacy or image-use restrictions, raise them before booking and paying the deposit.

The studio may also use CCTV for safety and security purposes.

What about privacy and boundaries during the tattoo?

Tattooing involves close physical and skin contact. Clothing may sometimes need to be removed or adjusted to allow access to the tattoo or maintain sanitary working conditions.

You are always entitled to ask why physical contact or clothing removal is necessary and to state or maintain your boundaries at any point. The artist must respect those boundaries.

If you require additional privacy, such as no other people in the studio or restrictions around nudity, please discuss this before your appointment.

What if I feel unwell after a tattoo?

Feeling light-headed or mildly feverish can happen after a long tattoo session. Do not drive immediately afterward. Eat, rest, and give yourself time to recover.

If symptoms persist after a good night’s sleep, seek medical advice. Fever or other concerning symptoms should be discussed with a medical professional promptly.

Are weekends available?

Appointments are generally Monday–Friday. Weekend appointments are not normally available, although exceptions may occasionally be possible.

Client Information

Location:

Maxime maintains a  private work space at his home in Wilton CT. If you would like to stay at a hotel in Connecticut, we can offer some recommendations as well as arrange a pick-up if you arrange this with me beforehand. If you’re interested in staying in Southport, it’s a beautiful town and Delamar is a hotel there with a high standard that I highly recommend. There are several hotels in Norwalk if you’d prefer to be closer to the work location— The Watershed, Courtyard Norwalk and Hilton Garden Inn Norwalk are three in Norwalk, close by. There are some nice hotels in downtown Stamford within walking distance of a variety of shops— Courtyard Stamford, Residence Inn Stamford, and the Lloyd Stamford are a handful there among many others.

If you are in New York, there is a train that runs to Norwalk from Grand Central in NYC and up the coast of Connecticut. The commute to Norwalk takes one hour, Norwalk is the nearest station to the location of the private studio. I recommend using the TrainTime MTA app to ensure that you make the correct transfers if needed and are on the correct train, and ticketing can be obtained through this app. It is the Metro-North Railroad line that runs through Norwalk. I am also able to pick you up from the station if you coordinate this with me, and plan to arrive at the station at least 30 minutes before your appointment.

MONOLITH
You may have the option to have your tattoo done at Monolith in NYC. More info about them can be found on their website (link)
If you would prefer this, please make that preference known when booking. Wait times may be longer. Information relevant to the location and access will be sent prior to the session.

Boundaries and Consent:

Tattooing is a practice demanding close contact and skin contact from design to tattooing. It may be required or recommended to remove certain items of clothes in order to not interfere with the artist’s movements or to avoid cross-contamination of clothes around an area where tattooing is happening. If unsure, please feel free to ask for an explanation why certain physical contacts happen or why you are asked to remove certain clothes. Feel free to decline or state boundaries if needed, before or during the session at any point. It is always OK to enforce your boundaries and the artist must respect those. Also, should the artist mispronoun you, feel free to state or remind them of your pronouns.

Aftercare:

If your tattoo has been covered with a ‘Second Skin,’ please review that section below first before proceeding with the following instructions.

Keep the tattoo covered and well-sealed with plastic wrap (cling film) for at least two hours and remove before going to bed. Whenever you are caring for your tattoo, make sure to wash your hands and that your environment is clean.

  1. On the night you were tattooed, remove the plastic wrap. Wash the tattoo gently with hot water and unscented soap. Gently rub away all of the goo (plasma + sweat + ink) that has formed under the plastic.
Rinse and pat dry with a clean, non-fluffy towel or kitchen roll (paper towel.) Make sure there are no fibers stuck to the tattoo.
  2. Do not apply any moisturizer, lotions or creams for the first day or two while the tattoo is healing.

Option A – For A Small Tattoo

  1. You may wish to keep it covered on the first night to sleep more comfortably and avoid staining your bed linens.

  2. From the morning onward, keep washing the tattoo with the unscented soap twice a day (morning and night) and on the second or third day, you can start applying a small amount of gentle and fragrance-free moisturizer after the tattoo has been washed and patted dry (speak to your artist for recommendations.)

Option B – For A Large Tattoo

  1. Cover the tattoo immediately with a new layer of plastic wrap. Make sure that it’s well-sealed and secure so no air can get in. Take care to not allow any part of the tattoo to become uncovered when moving around, getting dressed, etc.
  2. Next morning, repeat the cleaning procedure and keep covered until the evening.
  3. On the second evening, you should leave the tattoo un-covered, but you may cover it again if you prefer.
  4. Once the tattoo is left uncovered, keep washing the tattoo with the unscented soap twice a day (morning and night) and at this stage start to apply a gentle and fragrance-free moisturizer after the tattoo has been washed and patted dry (speak to your artist for recommendations.)

Option C – Second Skin

If your artist has covered your tattoo with a ‘Second Skin’ product (Dermalise, Tegaderm, Saniderm) then you will be advised to leave the patch on for 48 hours without making any change to your normal routine like showering and dressing. When it comes to removing the patch, it is recommended to do so slowly and carefully in the shower. Pull back towards the skin rather than up away from the skin.
If at any point the ‘Second Skin’ tears, rips, or opens, it is imperative that you remove the entire patch as soon as possible to avoid bacterial incubation.

Once it has been removed, wash the tattoo with unscented soap twice a day (morning and night) and start applying a gentle and fragrance-free moisturizer after the tattoo has been washed and patted dry with a clean towel (speak to your artist for recommendations.)

Healing Time:

Repeat Step 6 until the tattoo is fully healed. This normally takes between a week and a half to two weeks. During the healing process, the tattoo may feel dry, tight, or itchy. DO NOT pick or scratch the tattoo as this can cause infection and/or result in the tattoo healing badly (patchy in areas where picked.)

After the tattoo is healed, you may also want to continue to apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer for a week or two as the skin may be a little dry for a while afterwards. If any scabs have formed, DO NOT pick at them.

A tattoo is not a wound, but it is nonetheless an opening in the skin which is susceptible to germs and viruses, even after the tattoo procedure itself. However clean the tattooing instruments are, harmful germs and viruses can be introduced after and may be present on the skin and in the surrounding atmosphere (including your clothing, etc) so avoid dirt, dusty environments, dirty water and soiled clothing on your tattoo.

We encourage loose, clean, natural fabrics such as linen and cotton for any fabrics that will come into contact with your tattoo (such as bed sheets or clothing.)

Cleaning Tips

A shower is fine; just don’t have the tattoo immersed in water for any length of time while it’s healing. No baths or swimming for a week after you’ve been tattooed but preferably wait until fully healed. Avoid heavy exercise where you’ll be sweating a lot and avoid violent/contact sports for at least a week but preferably until the tattoo is fully healed. Do not expose the tattoo directly to the sun or use a sun bed (tanning bed) until the tattoo is fully healed. Ideally no sun/UV/sun bed exposure for 2-3 weeks.

Touch-Up

If you think your tattoo needs touch-ups, please allow first for your tattoo to heal and then get in touch with us. We will happily have a look and proceed if needed.

Questions

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. However, in the case of an infection, please consult with your doctor first.

Indications of an infection are:

  • Redness and swelling;
  • Sensation of heat at the site;
  • Pain, usually throbbing or spreading of pain;
  • Unusual discharge (yellow, green or grey pus)

It is normal to feel light-headed after a tattoo or even feverish after a long session. Avoid driving directly after finishing. Make sure to eat and rest first. If the symptoms persist after a good night of sleep, seek medical advice. A tattoo will reach its final, permanent appearance after 4 to 6 months.

Do:

  • Keep tattoo covered for at least two hours after being tattooed
  • Wash your hands before caring for tattoo in a clean environment
  • Wash tattoo gently with unscented soap and hot water, pat dry with clean towel
  • Clean twice a day
  • Wrap large tattoos after cleaning for 24-48 hours
  • Use gentle, fragrance free moisturizer after healed
  • Use a moisturizer instead of scratching if it feels too itchy
  • Wear loose, clean, natural fabrics such as cotton or linen while tattoo is healing

Don’t:

  • Apply any moisturizer, lotions or creams for the first day or two while the tattoo is healing.
  • Use moisturizer in the first two days
  • Use moisturizers that are scented or contain harsh exfoliating acids
  • Allow the tattoo to become uncovered when you are wrapping it yourself
  • Leave a ‘second skin’ patch on after it has been torn, opens or rips.
  • Pick at or scratch the tattoo while it is healing
  • Allow tattoo to be submerged while it is healing for at least a week (no baths, or swimming)
  • Exercise heavily, or leave sweat on the tattoo for the first week while it is healing
  • Expose tattoo to the sun/UV/tanning beds for the first 2-3 weeks
